We'll discuss the pivotal role of mushrooms in shaping life on Earth, the powerful lessons they offer for reimagining how we live and connect. Fungi have always been the ultimate team players, weaving themselves into the very fabric of evolution by forming deep symbiotic relationships with other species and create profoundly interconnected ecosystems. These underground, non-hierarchical networks literally hold life on the planet together, hidden beneath our feet. Growing and foraging mushrooms isn’t just a hobby—it’s a doorway into this hidden world. But here’s the catch: to truly embody their teachings, we’ve got to bring them into how we live, relate to one another, and build communities. To ground this discussion, you'll establish a direct connection with mushrooms through a hands-on activity. You'll discover low-tech cultivation techniques, easy to do at home, like Lipa Tek pasteurization, the "do nothing" method, cardboard spawn, and spore slurry. Together, we’ll prepare and inoculate the substrate while covering key topics such as fruiting conditions, containers, contaminants, and pest control. We’ll demonstrate with Pleurotus mushrooms, giving you the basics to grow other varieties you love.
